What To Expect On Occupy’s J17
Today is the big day the Occupy Movement has been planning for almost two months. So what’s on tap?
From what I’ve heard, the day began with visits to members of Congress and a gathering on the west front lawn of the Capitol building. It appeared that the Capitol police had put in place two layers of chain link green fencing, which the occupiers have since taken down.
At noon, there will be a General Assembly in front of the Capitol building. There are already a number of livestreamers present. @Timcast, @PunkboyinSf, @Oakfosho, @cross_x_bones and @msamritch have already set up their streams. J17live.org allows viewers to cycle through the streams to pick which one they want.
The wikileaks truck arrived with a smaller wikileaks van earlier. A group of #OWS protesters are heading down in a bus. Reporters are already there.
It is raining, but mild outside. Protesters have been wearing rain coats.
The protesters obtained a permit to demonstrate on the lawn. My understanding is that many of the acts of civil disobedience will happen after 6 p.m., in front of the Capitol.
I’m heading down to cover the protest at noon. Stay tuned. I’ll be updating my Tumblr and Twitter, and will Livestream if arrests begin or a confrontation occurs.
