Georgetown Citizen’s Association Wants To Put Up Security Cameras

It’s really a perfect story for a tumblr called Watch DC: A Georgetown citizens association wants to put up a network of 10 cameras to monitor crime in their neighborhood, the Washington Times reports.

The association pitching the idea would put the cameras on private residence’s property and pay for them, thus skirting the regulations that come with having a city-financed system.

One guy the Times interviewed had already set up three cameras on his block. He said that the cameras have led to three felony convictions over a “couple year period.”

The association claims the cameras will be used to bust thieves breaking into cars, stealing packages from doorsteps or vandalizing the neighborhood.

Really it seems that this notoriously enclosed community (it doesn’t have a metro stop) is just showing off its fear of the outside, less gentrified world. Or perhaps they’re just trying to figure out what their neighbors are up to.
